When you reach for the stars you can achieve anything, just like the students of Uganda!
At the Cotton On Foundation we are big dreamers and believers, we chase our goals and make the impossible, possible. We aim to instill these values in all of the students that we are lucky enough to work with across the world, we encourage them to reach for the stars and follow their dreams, because when you do, you can be anything you want to be.
Since we began our partnership with the Mannya community in Southern Uganda almost ten years ago, we have seen hundreds of students graduate from primary school, secondary school, vocational studies and university. We’ve been lucky enough to join many of these students along their journey through our child sponsorship program and other education based activities within the communities we operate in.
We’ve supported 37 students through University and currently we have a further 27 students who are completing their degrees. The passion and dedication these students show toward their education and creating a brighter future for themselves and their families is truly inspiring. We’ve seen students graduate from degrees including Accounting and Finance, Business Management, Education, Nursing and more!
One of our 2016 graduates Waliyi completed a Bachelor of Public Administration. Waliyi was supported through the Kirabo Education child sponsorship program from Senior 5, right through university. He said that when he was at school, history was his favourite subject and at university he most enjoyed Political Science and Administration Law.
Another of our recent graduates Dianah completed a Bachelors Degree in Adults and Community Education. She says, “I’m now admired in the community I grew [up] in as someone with a Degree. I can now support myself, my family and even the community members.”
Cotton On Foundation Social Worker Clare, based in Mannya village says “Seeing your name on the graduation list is one of the greatest joys in a student’s education.” It also brings us great joy to see these students reaching for the stars in order to achieve their dreams and we can’t wait to see what their future holds for them.
